Danny MacAskill has been nominated for National Geographic magazine’s People’s Choice Adventurer of the Year award. This accolade recognizes athletes who “embody the spirit of adventure in their discipline and push forward their sport to the next levelâ€.
Danny’s nomination is in recognition of the 40,000 miles he’s logged across Scotland in search of ideal locations to execute his stunts.
The National Geographic awards will be in their seventh year in 2012, with previous winners including surfer Kelly Slater and extreme sailor David de Rothschild. The Adventurer of the Year award is voted for by the people, with voting opening today and continuing through to mid-January. The winner will be announced at the beginning of March. Danny faces strong competition from nine other competitors, including adventurer Alastair Humphreys, snowboarder Travis Rice and surfer Carissa Moore.
“It’s quite a shock and an honour to be nominated,†said MacAskill. “I’ve been incredibly lucky this year, traveling all over the world, seeing and doing things I couldn’t have even dreamed of. It’s amazing getting to do what I love doing every day and getting recognition like this for it. I hope this is just the beginning of my adventure but if you think I deserve to win then please vote for me!â€
