Anyone wishing to emulate Alberto Pena’s recent 72 hr ‘End to End’ record in Cuba will now have to wait until November but there is an opportunity in March for those who prefer a more leisurely trip in Cuba. The Fat Mary tour, March 16th – 29th 2012, affords an opportunity to explore the hills of Cuba’s western hinterland and at the same time enjoy some of Cuba’s finest beaches. Starting in Varadero, the tour traces the rugged Atlantic coast to Havana, before heading west through gentle uplands to Soroa and on to the sugarloaf landscape of Vinales. Then it’s west in more level terrain through tobacco country to the beach at Maria la Gorda (‘Fat Mary’), culminating in a 64k trek along Cuba’s loneliest shore to Cabo San Antonio, where Alberto Pena completed his ‘end to end’ ride. A bus transfer back to Varadero brings riders rest and relaxation at an all inclusive while awaiting their return flight. Besides stops at a number of beaches, this tour includes a visit to the Havana Velodrome and Soroa’s Orchid Garden. Daily rides ranging from 30 to 100 km are fully supported by the escorting bus, allowing participants to opt for a shorter distance where appropriate. Likewise, longer options are available for those who have energy to spare. Alberto Pera and other members of the support team will escort us on the road. The ride is a revised version of last years Cuba in the Raw. Distances are just a guide line, you can rider as much or as little as you like. We have a great support team and a very nice sag bus to pick you up or drop you off when every your fried or what more riding.
The land cost is $1595 CAD and includes both breakfast and dinner every day. Your ride food is up to you. Bring you favourite ride food or stop with the gang at a cafe en route.
A $200 deposit is required when you register. This is transferable to other events or a friend should you need to cancel.
