The U.S. Forest Service has approved the Timberline ski area’s plans for a lift-assisted mountain biking “skills park” on Mount Hood, despite environmental concerns about the sensitive alpine terrain.
The project’s 17 miles of trails would cover much of the lower ski slopes below the tree line, with the bikers pedaling along ski runs and through nearby forest patches from July through October.
