AND YOUR 2015 BOARD OF DIRECTOR NOMINEES ARE:
Name:Â Sarah Devriese
Position running for: President
What excites you the most about joining the Muddbunnies board?
I am a passionate mountain biker. I will miss dinner to go for a bike ride. Heck, I commute 2 hours a day so I can live next to the trailhead. I ride a lot. And I love it. And I wouldn’t be the mountain biker that I am if it wasn’t for the Muddbunnies. The camaraderie and support I’ve found in the club’s women is astounding. And some of my closest friends are Muddbunnies! Last year, I wanted to be more involved in this club so joined the Board as secretary. And nothing has changed since then. I want to continue being part of the club and help it grow, reach out to more women, and be able to offer more rides. I’m excited to be on the Board again and help reach those goals in 2015.
What do you want to accomplish in the role you are apply for?
I have big shoes to fill in the role of president… I will continue to unify the Board and involve everyone. You can expect me to lead our monthly AGM meetings as well as be a link between the Muddbunnies and the rest of the mountain bike community. I hope that at least one Board Bunnie will be present at meetings from the local trail associations, all the way from the Shore to the Valley. I want the club to be well-known and respected in all parts of our community and increase member involvement in bike-related activities. I also want to uphold and strengthen the relationships with our sponsors, including but not limited to Ryders and Different Bikes. Finally, I want to make sure there are enough leads and rides offered so that there are Muddbunnie sightings across the entire Lower Mainland.
Board members bring experience, wisdom, strategic thinking. Can you tell us about yours?
During university, I served as the vice-president and president of a student chapter of a professional society. In those roles, I engaged with the other members, found industry speakers for our meetings twice a month, and helped organize trips to annual conferences. I also helped organize our part in “Math and Science nightâ€, where university students show easy experiments to elementary kids. While completely different from mountain biking, I think this prior experience on a club’s board will help me fulfill the duties of president for the Muddbunnies.
I think my experience as a PhD candidate will also help me in the role of president. As a researcher, I’ve learned to think creatively and on my feet. I’ve worked on group projects and needed to prioritize tasks. I’ve had to stand in front of a hundred of my peers, who have more experience, and tell them why my research is important. I’ve had to work on questions that may never have a clear answer. Or questions that have multiple correct answers. All this will help me at being the Muddbunnies president: dealing with conflicts, delegating tasks, and establishing relationships with the community. And finally, my involvement with the Muddbunnies over the years, including this last year on the Board, helps me understand the club’s goals.
Tell us about your current involvement with the Muddbunnies?
I became a Muddbunnie in 2011, right when I started mountain biking. I’ve been a member ever since. In 2012, I started leading rides and was also on the race team. I have to say, leading is much more “me†than racing so I continued being a ride lead in 2013 and 2014. Throughout these years, I’ve led mostly beginner and intermediate rides, as well as some weekend riders and regular night rides. This past year, I started leading the Tri-Cities Thursday rides so bunnies between the two bridges could ride as well. This was quite well received and will continue in 2015. I was also the secretary for the Board of Directors, which I enjoyed a lot. This past year, I’ve coached clinics for the Muddbunnies club, with all proceeds going back to the club. And I also bake for the bake sales we have at bike fests!

What excites you the most about joining the Muddbunnies board?
Since joining the Muddbunnies back in the spring of 2011, there have been so many positive changes to the club (programming, social events, etc). I am excited to continue being a part of the club’s evolution and innevitable growth.
What do you want to accomplish in the role you are apply for?
The club has a strong membership base and each year brings in a fresh crop of eager Bunnies. With the help of the 2015 board, I want our our membership tow grow not only in numbers, but also in geography.
Another focus of the 2015 board would be fostering “community”. Whether it’s on a ride, at a trail building day, or volunteering at an event – giving and communing with others who love bikes, too.
Board members bring experience, wisdom, strategic thinking. Can you tell us about yours?
The 2015 season will mark my 4th year as a Muddbunnie and (hopefully) my 3rd year as a board member. Under the guidance of very seasoned members & riders, I have learned so much about what it is to be a Muddbunnie and what is required to keep the Club strong.
Outside of mtn biking, I am also active in the world of Ultimate. I was on the BOD for the Vancouver Ultimate League for 3 years as Treasurer. I was then recruited to be a BOD for the BC Ultimate Society, which is the provinical governing body for Ultimate Frisbee. While I was originally brought on to manage their finances, I’ve recently taken over the role of President and sit on the HR committee.
Needless to say, strategic planning, financial management, and governance comes naturally and I looking foward to putting these skills to good use with the Muddbunnies Riding Club.

Name: Bobbi Lutters Byng
Position running for: Treasurer
What excites you the most about joining the Muddbunnies board?Â
This is Gina Hopper submitting on behalf of Bobbi Byng:
Bobbi is a guru at all things financial! And, unlike many, she really enjoys doing accounting like things in her down time.
What do you want to accomplish in the role you are apply for?
Bobbi will ensure our budgets are kept in check, our inventories are monitored, and membership dues tracked. With her in charge of the money bit, the rest of the board can focus on getting things done.
Board members bring experience, wisdom, strategic thinking. Can you tell us about yours?
Bobbi is an accountant during the week and a mountain bike enthusiast on the weekends. And, this will not be her first time at the MB Board rodeo… she kept us all in line as Treasurer back in 2013. We miss her and want her back!
Tell us about your current involvement with the Muddbunnies?
Bobbi joined the Muddbunnies as a beginner rider in the spring of 2011. The following year she joined the Board as treasurer and held that position for two consecutive seasons (2012 & 2013). She also stepped up and joined the Ride Lead crew in 2013 and has been showing the latest batch of beginner bunnies just how much fun riding bikes in the woods can be.
Name: Carrie Antoniazzi
Position running for: Director of Volunteers
What excites you the most about joining the Muddbunnies board?Â
I am excited about the changes to the volunteer / trail day program! This new initiative will allow Bunnies to be involved with the local mountain bike community no matter where they live. I can’t wait to see how this all plays out!
I am also looking forward to the great dialogue at meetings that allows us to think up new initiatives for the Bunnies and to better the ones we already have!
What do you want to accomplish in the role you are apply for?
I am hoping to start out the new volunteer initiative by building the relationship between the bunnies and community organizations and seeing how we can work together. I also want to make a database/ list of all the events, races, and trail days that our Bunnies can participate in as well as work on a system to track the volunteer hours logged.
I know a new program like this will take some tweaking throughout the year and I am up to the challenge to make this an awesome initiative for the bunnies, our partners and sponsors!
Board members bring experience, wisdom, strategic thinking. Can you tell us about yours?
I was on the board this year as the director of trail days. This allowed me to better understand how the Bunnie Board works and the time commitment involved.
I also worked for Crankworx Whistler for 6 years at the Volunteer Coordinator. I was responsible for getting volunteer numbers and shifts from each of the Crankworx departments, sort through the volunteer applications, then organizing and scheduling approximately 300 volunteers over a 2 week period. These skills will be useful while trying to build up this years new volunteer initiative.
Tell us about your current involvement with the Muddbunnies?
I have been a Muddbunnie member for the past 2 years. This last year, I was also on the Muddbunnies Director of Trail Days. For this coming season, I am part of the Muddbunnies Race team. I am looking forward to training with the team and challenging myself on the bike!
Name: Joanie Maynard
Position running for: Director of Rides
What excites you the most about joining the Muddbunnies board?Â
The Muddbunnies Riding club is such a great organization. I started riding with the Muddbunnies just after buying my first mountain bike and riding with the club made a huge difference for me. It so encouraging to ride with a group of women who are patient, who make you feel that it’s ok to be scared but also encourage you to push your limits. It always puts a smile on my face when I tell someone I am in the Muddbunnies and they tell me: “oh, I’ve heard about your club. You ladies are rad!” and yes we are!
What excites me the most about joining the board is the chance to have an impact on the future of the club, a chance to say “let’s make the Muddbunnies Riding Club even more awesome than it already is!”
What do you want to accomplish in the role you are apply for?
I have been a ride lead myself for the past 3 years and I love it. As the Director of Rides, I want to make sure that every ride leads know that they are making a huge difference in the success of the club.
I also want to improve recruitment strategies in order to increase our list of ride leads. The more ride leads we have, the more rides we can offer.
Board members bring experience, wisdom, strategic thinking. Can you tell us about yours?
I have all of the above, and a good sense of humility!haha Joking aside, I believe I am great at thinking rationally. I tend to get easily excited about new projects, but I can keep a realistic point of view of what it feasible or not.
Two friends and I recently founded a not-for-profit organization which has the mission of getting more girls outside, and we received a MEC grant to get our project started. It required a fair bit of strategic planning, and the whole process was a great learning experience. Working with friends can be tricky, and we all manage it pretty well.
I am currently on the MB Board of Directors. Being involved at a higher level of an organization means that you have to accept that your interests will sometimes come second. I always make decisions keeping in mind the club’s best interests. For example, I never write negative opinions on social media that could hurt the club image. As Directors, it is our responsibility to ensure the club maintains a good public image.
Tell us about your current involvement with the Muddbunnies?
I am currently a member and I am on the Board of Directors. I also participated in a few trail days and helped with the recruitment of volunteers for different MB events.

What excites you the most about joining the Muddbunnies board?Â
The reason I’m applying for a board job is because it’s time to give back to bunnies for a few good years and great socks. Â the fancy answers about what i want to accomplish and my experience and skills … now that’s hard?!!!
What do you want to accomplish in the role you are apply for?
Get more exposure for bunnies and let women know that mountain biking doesn’t have to bad ass  – it just has to be fun, and if you become a bad ass in the process that’s just a bonus. being the SM person will put me in a good position to share the fun, you can do it, bikes for everyone ideals.
Board members bring experience, wisdom, strategic thinking. Can you tell us about yours?
I have good experience with social media running a small internet marketing company. I’ve also run a couple of personal blogs over the years and learned a lot about SM through those experiences.
Wisdom? only the wisdom that comes from being around for 47 years and learning life’s lessons along the way. Â the biggest things I’ve learned in those years is do what makes you happy, and don’t compare yourself to others – you’ll never see how great you actually are if you do!
Strategic thinking? honestly? I’m not a big picture thinker. I’m more of a what’s the next task at hand and how are we going to get it done. I’m all logistics and practical about getting things done – but can’t always visualise the final outcome .. because I’m too focused on what we need to do to get from point a to b.

5th year as a bunny (holy moly really???) was a ride leader last season and have helped out at a few trail days.

I am currently a Corporate Paralegal in a downtown lawfirm and have been looking after company and society records for a rather long time (over 20 years). I have a lot of experience in records keeping and compliance issues and think that I can offer that experience to the board and members of the Muddbunnies.
Tell us about your current involvement with the Muddbunnies?
I am a current member, have been a member in the past and look forward to being part of the bunnies in the future, whether being on the board or just as a member.
