The first US team member to win their medal was Jill Kintner. On Friday, August 22, Kintner earned the bronze medal in Women’s BMX, finishing after Anne-Caroline Chausson and Laetitia Le Corguille of France. Kintner, a 26 year old from Seattle, had been competing as a mountain bike rider and returned to BMX racing when the opportunity to be on the US Olympic team came up. Kintner rode across the finish line with the words “4 dad†written on her gloves in honor of her late father, Peter, who passed away a year and a half earlier. Kintner’s father had operated a local BMX track when she and her brothers were kids. Kintner rides for GT Bikes.
