Well racing has started for some of us Muddbunnies. Nadja and I went down to Tacoma to race at Fort Steilacoom on a hilly course. The best part of the course was a gnarly drop that was all rutted out after the experts had raced the course for 5 laps. I decided to start the season out with an endo in the pre-ride, just to get it out of my system. So you can imagine how that sets ya up for the race. Yah!!!
There were about 5 of us gals all hot on each others wheels during the first lap. I was determined to stay on the wheel in front of me and ride the drop. Unfortunately the gal in front of me crashed and I had to crash to avoid riding over her. So strike two! Yah!!
On the second lap when I came to the drop there was a pile of carnage and everyone was just getting up and sorting themselves out so I got off and ran through the bushes to try to get past a few folks. There were tons of spectators standing around to watch the fun. One of the guys watching gave me grief about not riding and I politely said: this is when bunnies turn to chickens, bak bak (chicken sound). Everyone got a giggle over that. But hey it paid off! Yah!!!
The third and final lap was a balls to the walls and again, crash and endo on the drop. And of course once you are that spent it is a little harder to recompose yourself and get going again. That is until you see another gal coming down the trail….goooooooooooooo! So I ended the day about 5th female overall and second in my old lady age division of 50+. And that is how the season starts! Yah. Thanks to Nadja for showing up with a wicked cold and bronchial nasty cough to cheer me on. So great to have a cool teammate.
The Muddbunnies encourage and welcome female riders of all experience and skill levels to join them in getting down and dirty. Come on, ride like a girl!
