Chairlift Opens, Toonie Day, Yeah Bro! Bike Fest & the most exciting Freeride Mountain Bike Camps in the Interior
“We’ve had crews working extremely hard over the last seven weeks,†says Jamie Tattersfied, head of Mountain Operations at Sun Peaks Resort. “We have a superior product and despite the recent rain we are looking forward to a good Bike Park opening.â€
A final list of trails open will be announced later next week as alpine snow continues to melt and conditions dry.
The well-loved Toonie Day will soon follow (July 3) allowing Kamloops and area residents to hit the trails for only $2.00 plus a non-perishable Kamloops Food Bank donation. This is a great opportunity for locals to experience the world class downhill mountain bike park in their own backyard.
Sun Peaks Bike Park Freeride Camps have a reputation as the most exciting mountain bike camps offered in the Interior. Coached by some of B.C.’s top riders, these 5-day camps immerse riders in all aspects of freeriding and can include transportation between Kamloops and Sun Peaks Resort (July 23 – 27 or August 6 – 10).
Women looking to explore the Bike Park in a fun and supportive environment can take part in the first Women’s Freeride Mountain Bike Camp of the season (July 7 & 8 or August 11 & 12). Coached by local female riders, campers will learn about line selection, flowing corners and berms, pinning single track, and conquering features in the park. Ladies Day in the Bike Park will also continue every Friday beginning July 13. This program includes a full day of coaching and a Bike Park lift ticket for the day.
Sun Peaks Bike Park staff and organizers are looking forward to hosting several exciting Bike Park events this summer, including the returning Yeah Bro! BC Cup #3 Downhill Series (July 15) during the Yeah Bro! Bike Fest (July 13 – 22) which includes some the best riders from Kamloops and the country as well as the Classic Dual Slalom (September 2).
