Travel Planning? Check out McDreamy’s Cycling Retreat

Grey’s Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey and Garmin–Sharp pro Tom Danielson announced today they’re hosting a winter cycling camp this January at The Ranch in Malibu, CA. Dempsey, who just wrapped up his annual bike/run/walk fundraiser, the Dempsey Challenge, developed the idea when Danielson joined him last winter to train in Malibu.

“Malibu is my favorite place to ride,” said Danielson. “I’ve trained around the world and didn’t believe Patrick at first, but the roads are low-traffic, have wide shoulders and switchbacks, and gorgeous ocean and mountain views.”

The American racer went on to explain the weeklong camp would be filled with fun yet challenging rides, and is geared toward riders who love working in the community atmosphere of cycling.

“Both Patrick and I find we get the most out of ourselves in a fun environment, so we’re going to work super hard, but also have a great time,” explained Danielson. “With Garmin, bike-fit expert Mat Steinmetz, and the Ranch staff helping, this is going to be better supported than a pro team camp.”

Danielson added that riders can look forward to training and nutrition consultations, daily massages, and, of course, plenty of time with Dempsey and Danielson. Ten percent of the camp’s $8,000 fee, which covers lodging, meals, mechanical support from Specialized, and a Garmin Edge 500 cyclocomputer, will benefit youth cycling charities.
