Spanish triathlete Virginia Berasategui won her first race as a Giant-sponsored athlete on Saturday, taking the title at the 16th running of the Gernika Sprint Duathlon in Spain. Athletes were required to ride road bikes instead of time trial bikes, and Berasategui scorched the course on her Giant TCR Advanced SL. She posted the fastest bike split in the women’s field.
Berasategui, a top-five finisher at the last two Ironman Worlds in Hawaii, joined Giant earlier this year. The Gernika duathlon was a training event for her upcoming triathlons, including the April 30th Wildflower Triathlon in California.
