WHISTLER, BC April 14, 2011 – Although it appears winter has a death grip on British Columbia at the moment, one of the first signs of summer will appear on April 15, 2011. Bike Parks BC is back with their epic Summer of Freeride contest, throwing down a season pass at five of BC’s best lift-accessed bike parks, $1,000 spending money, two nights accommodation at each resort, DH rig rentals, a half-day with a guide for a proper introduction to the mountain and even two lift tickets at each park for the winner’s riding buddy to be used over the 2011 summer season.

“This year we are looking for Bike Parks BC’s most fanatical and obsessed riders,” says Martin Littlejohn, Executive Director of the Mountain Bike Tourism Association. “The big question is what exactly would you blow off to take on British Columbia’s best bike parks this summer? Your grandparent’s fiftieth anniversary, your best friend’s wedding, the birth of your first born?”

With filming capabilities built into most digital cameras, smart phones and laptops, not to mention the proliferation of POV cameras, Bike Parks BC is asking for a video capture of what these fervent riders are willing to give up to have the ride of their life this summer at Bike Parks BC’s participating resorts: Whistler Mountain Bike Park, Silver Star Bike Park, Sun Peaks Resort, Fernie Alpine Resort and Mount Washington Bike Park.

“It doesn’t have to be professional or polished, you don’t even need to include your bike or riding footage…although we all appreciate a little eye candy,” says Littlejohn. “What we do require is that your message is captured on video.”

A panel of celebrity mountain bike judges will choose the top video submission from the rider that has their priorities straighter than the next guy. The ultimate sacrifice will win the ultimate summer tearing up the tastiest bike parks BC has to offer and the chance to brag about it all on the Bike Parks BC blog.

Here are the important dates you don’t want to blow off:
• Video submission will be accepted from Friday April 15 to May 29, 2011 on www.bikeparksbc.com or www.facebook.com/bikeparksbc.
• The public will be unleashed to vote and determine the finalists from Monday, April 30 to Sunday, June 12.
• Finalists will be announced Monday, June 13.
• The panel of celebrity judges will select the final winner from the finalists.
• The winner will be announced Monday, June 20 and someone’s ultimate summer of free ride with Bike Parks BC will begin.
