Organizer, Lisa Mason, wanted to encourage women to ride the various features within the air dome, including the foam pit, in a non-intimidating atmosphere. There were a variety of ages and abilities there; from ladies who had never ridden the foampit before to local rider Kat Sweet and world class dirt jumper Tammy Donahugh from Colorado, both inspiring the girls and providing tips to the rest of the women.
And it certainly seemed to work. At first everyone was pretty tentative, but within a few minutes folks had found their comfort zones.  Our very own Race Team member Isabelle Deguise, a foam pit ‘virgin’, was throwing down backflips and 360s!  There were no-handers, 360’s and jump jams everywhere. It was amazing to see verteran DH racers, and green XC riders all coming together for such a cool event. We had 19 riders show up, and the buzz was amazing for weeks afterwards. We will definitely be hosting more!
One of the best moments was when Isabelle Deguise’s husband tweeted Rachel Atherton, and the Atherton’s all rolled in to check out the scene filming the Atherton project. Rachel even tweeted about it: in whistler at the foam pit 5 chicks back flipping!all the chicks that race Cape Epic, all chicks riding the same tracks as the guys, come on! http://twitter.com/#!/rachelatherton
With the absence of Womensworx in Crankworx now, this was a great session for women wanting to improve their jumping skills and hopefully it will become a regular event in Whistler!
Prizes were donated from Pinkbike, Race face, Muddbunnies, Ryders Eyewear and MEC, and jump bikes were provided courtesy of Fanatykx Co and Mountain Riders.
